===== Device Domain =====

Devices are are instruments, implants, reagents, or similar that is used to diagnose, prevent, or treat disease, and does not achieve its purposes through chemical action within or on the body (which would make it a Drug).

Device domain Concepts should be only used in the device_concept_id field of the DEVICE table.

==== Overall Structure ====

Concepts of the Device domain can be found in the [[documentation:vocabulary:read|Read]], [[documentation:vocabulary:snomed|SNOMED]], [[documentation:vocabulary:hcpcs|HCPCS]] and [[documentation:vocabulary:ciel|CIEL]] vocabularies. Only SNOMED or HCPCS devices are Standard Concepts, while Read and CIEL devices are mapped to SNOMED.
