Elizabeth (Liz) Marshall MD, MBA
Associate Director of Clinical Analytics Linguamatics
IQVIA

Liz is the Associate Director of Clinical Analytics of the Natural Language Processing (NLP) branch of IQVIA—Linguamatics. She is the only physician in the NLP branch and her day-to-day job consists of working with the branch’s employees and clients on how to utilize NLP for better patient care and research.

Prior to joining IQVIA, Liz did her fellowship training at the Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) in Informatics. During this time, she became Epic Build Research Certified, and she worked on building informatic solutions for healthcare utilizing Lingumatics NLP, Epic build and telemedicine. Liz has a long history with various electronic health records (EHRs), and she has reviewed and abstracted relevant physical and mental information from EHRs from over 1,000 patients and 300 clinicians. Liz is a proud veteran of the United States Air Force and her work at the VA as a Clinical Research Health Scientist in Charleston, SC, resulted in substantial gains in the treatment of suicidality and PTSD. She was awarded the 2013 Research Training Institute Scholar Award from the Injury Control Research Center for Suicide Prevention (ICRC-S). Liz also developed a highly effective e-learning training program for helping clinicians identify and treat suicidal patients that was requested for federal-wide adoption by the Department of Defense.

Liz was introduced to OHDSI during her IQVIA employment. Since then she has had the pleasure with working with other IQVIA employees on understanding the value of OHDSI and showing the importance of incorporating NLP into the model for the pursuit of better patient outcomes.
