Nicolas Thurin
Scientific Officer
Bordeaux PharmacoEpi, CIC 1401, Université de Bordeaux

Dr. Nicolas Thurin is scientific officer at Bordeaux PharmacoEpi, the research platform in Pharmacoepidemiology of the Université de Bordeaux. Bordeaux PharmacoEpi has more than 15 years of experience generating real world evidence using the French National Healthcare System database (SNDS – Système National des Données de Santé), designing pharmacoepidemiology studies and developing algorithms for the identification of diseases and outcomes.

Dr. Thurin trained in pharmacoepidemiology and pharmacovigilance after he received his PharmD from the Université de Bordeaux in 2014. Since then, he has been working extensively on data standardization. In the framework of an exchange program with the Université de Montréal Dr. Thurin mapped Canadian electronic health records to the OMOP CDM. He worked with the Bordeaux PharmacoEpi team on the standardization of the SNDS data for research purposes. Dr. Thurin is also in charge of the coordination of ALCAPONE (Alert generation using the case population approach in the French claims databases), a project funded by the French Ministry of Health, relying on the OHDSI environment and aiming to empirically assess methods to generate drug-related alert in the SNDS. To this end, Dr. Thurin is developing the ETL process to apply the OMOP CDM to the SNDS. This work is part of his dissertation for the defense of his PhD.
